The eggplant dress is stunning, Kari! That beautiful first skirt reminds me of Claire McCardell's work, and that cocoon coat is def bringing Issey to the table. The sleeves on that blouse are calling me! The mini tooled purse is very much like one I had in the mid-70s - they were super-trendy in my elementary school in 1976 and I wanted one SO BAD. We bought one in Tijuana, Mexico while in California for a trip to Disneyland, and my dad painted the birds and flowers on it for me. <3 I wish I still had it.

I just had a suede fringed jacket come to me from a friend, am trying out all my customers to see who wants it!

Oh, and I know what you mean - it's amazing to me that we can connect virtually! It's so nice to not feel alone in our clothing obsessions, right? <3

I have to say I am not familiar with Claire McCardell's work, and wow! After a quick google a deep dive is in order! Thanks for bringing her to my attention. I love the memory you have with these painted purses, and that your dad customized yours for you - it seems you have inherited the painting on leather gene hehe.

I never connected my dad painting my purse with my own shoe-illustrations! Thank you for pointing that out! I’ve always given my mom the cred for my art, but I’d forgotten that my dad was also very precise and liked to play with a paintbrush. Thank you, Kari!

Ooh, Claire was a visionary! I spotted a pair of - I can only describe them as “connected pockets”?? in a consignment store recently (they were orange and leather!!), and just drooled over them for a while, never having seen a Claire piece “in the wild” before. Enjoy your deep dive!
